Benny Johnson recalls how Charlie Kirk helped his family after arson destroyed their DC home

Benny Johnson says the side of Charlie Kirk the public rarely saw was the one that left a lasting impression on him — a friend who stepped in to help when his family needed it most.

"I watched how he behaved behind the scenes and when no one else was watching," the conservative influencer recalled on the "Hang Out With Sean Hannity" podcast.

Johnson and his family were forced from their Washington, D.C., home after it sustained severe fire damage during the city's "Defund the Police" era.

At the time, Johnson said, he was living in what he described as a high-crime neighborhood because it was all he could afford.

"Somebody walked in, smashed the window and just dumped a bunch of gasoline and lit the house next to mine on fire in a drug gangland war," Johnson told Hannity.

"My newborn child was in there. The fire department had to rip the door off my house to save it," he added, recounting footage he had seen from his Ring camera.

Johnson said that in the aftermath of the fire, one person stepped in to help.

"Nobody reached out except for Charlie Kirk," he said.

"He [Kirk] says, 'You're gonna move to Florida. It's gonna be the best thing ever. God has actually told me that this is gonna happen... you need a condo in Sarasota. Go stay there, and you can stay there for as long as you want. You never have to pay me anything. I'm never gonna ask you to leave. You just stay there and you're going to find a home here and you gonna like save your family.'"
